The North Downs is a chalky ridge that, as a whole, stretches from Farnham in the west as far as Dover in Kent. The Surrey Hills section we are concerned with stretches from Guildford over to Dorking and includes St Martha's, Newlands Corner, Ranmore, Denbies and on to Box Hill.

There are no official mountain bike trails on the North Downs but there are a large number of bridleways, BOATs and the North Downs Way - a long distance national walking trail that can be linked up to traverse the Downs. As you can imagine, the steep southern face of the ridge makes an ideal home for a number of unofficial trails!

Across the North Downs, you should keep to rights of way open to cyclists and keep off footpaths/unmarked trails.
